What is a Youth Mobility Scheme Visa?
A Youth Mobility Scheme visa enables nationals of qualifying
countries who are aged between 18 to 30 to live and work in the UK.
This visa has replaced the Youth Mobility Scheme visa (T5).
What Are the Key Eligibility Requirements for a Youth Mobility
Scheme visa?
In order to successfully apply for a Youth Mobility Scheme visa,
applicants must meet the following key requirements:
- Must be aged between 18 to 30;

Must be a citizen of either Australia, Canada, Monaco, New
Zealand, San Marino, Iceland or are a citizen of Hong Kong, Japan,
South Korea, Taiwan and have been selected in the Youth Mobility
Scheme ballot or are a British overseas citizen, British overseas
territories citizen or a British national (overseas);

Applicant’s aged between 18 to 35 from New Zealand are eligible to
apply from 29 June 2023;

Must have £2,530 in savings to support themselves in the UK;

Must not have any children who are under the age of 18 who live
with them and are financially dependant on them;
- Must not have used this scheme before;

May need to provide a tuberculosis (TB) certificate depending on
which country the applicant resides in;

Applicants from either Hong Kong, Japan, the Republic of Korea or
Taiwan must provide a valid email from the Home Office confirming
they were successful in the Youth Mobility Scheme ballot;

Applicants from San Marino must provide a letter from the
Directorate of Political and Diplomatic Affairs of the Republic of
San Marino Department of Foreign Affairs, which confirms that they
are suitable for the Youth Mobility Scheme and must have been
issued less than 6 months before they apply for the Youth Mobility
Scheme visa; and

Applicants from Iceland, must provide an Icelandic Criminal
Certificate for Private Use (called a Sakavottorð). It must have
been issued less than 6 months before they apply for the Youth
Mobility Scheme visa.
How Long is a Youth Mobility Scheme Visa Valid for?
A Youth Mobility Scheme visa is granted up to 2 years.
Can a Youth Mobility Scheme Visa be Extended?
From 29 June 2023 only New Zealand nationals will be eligible to
extend their visa by a year. This will bring their total stay in the
UK under the Youth Mobility Scheme to 3 years.
Can Dependants Join or Accompany Youth Mobility Scheme Workers?
Unfortunately, dependants cannot join or accompany Youth Mobility
Scheme visa holders.
How Long Does it Take For a Decision to be Made?
The Home Office will usually process a Youth Mobility Scheme visa
application within 3 weeks.
How Much Does it Cost?
The Home Office fee is £259.
Applicants will also have to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge,
which is usually £470 per year.
