• Get married or register a civil partnership in the UK;
• Give notice of intention to get married or to enter into a civil partnership in the UK.

What Are the Key Eligibility Requirements for a UK Marriage Visitor Visa?

In order to successfully apply for a UK Marriage Visitor visa, applicants must meet the following key requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age;
• Must be free to give notice of intention to marry or to enter into a civil partnership in the UK within 6 months of their arrival;
• Must be in a genuine and subsisting relationship with their partner;
• Must intend to leave the before the expiry of their 6 months visa;
• Must not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK their main home;
• Must be able to support themselves during their trip (or have funding from someone else to support them);
• Must be able to pay for their return or onward journey (or have funding from someone else to pay for their journey); and
• Must meet the additional requirements for visitors coming to the UK to marry or register a civil partnership.

How Long is Marriage Visitor Visa Valid for?

A UK Marriage Visitor visa is granted for 6 months.

Can a Marriage Visitor Visa be Extended?

A UK Marriage Visitor visa cannot be extended or switched to another visa category. Applicants must leave the UK at the end of the 6 months period of stay permitted under this visa.

How Long Does it Take For a Decision to be Made?

The Home Office usually process a Marriage Visitor visa application within 3 weeks.

If eligible, applicants will be advised whether they can apply to get a decision faster. The Home Office charge additional fees for these priority services.
